News Item Photos (1) On Friday, April 12, Grade 6-8 students from the Indigenous Student Circle gathered at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School for a cooking class led by Chef Keri-Ann. The students made Three Sisters soup and bannock. Keri-Ann showed the students how to properly chop their vegetables, clean their workstations, and prepare their soup and bannock. Wood Burning On Wednesday, March 27, Indigenous artist, Vicky Grant, visited Grade 11 students at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. Vicky introduced herself and her artwork with wood burning and shared her knowledge while facilitating lessons over two days to encourage students to create their own pieces of art. She emphasized the importance of appreciation versus appropriation and encouraged students to create a piece of art that connected to their identity and interests.

Christy On March 21, 22 and 25, author Christy Jordan-Fenton visited Grades 6, 7 and 8 classes from St. John Paul II Catholic School, St. John Bosco Catholic School and St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic School. Christy discussed the books that she co-wrote with her mother-in-law, Margaret Olemaun Pokiak-Fenton.
Christy told the students that one of the main reasons she wrote about Margaret's life was because she wanted her children to see their Inuvialuit culture in a positive way...

Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative settlement for a renewed collective agreement with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) Durham Secondary Unit. OECTA Durham Secondary represents the board's secondary and continuing education teachers.
The details of the Memorandum of Settlement remain confidential and are subject to local ratification by the OECTA Durham Secondary membership...
