Beating the Summer Math Slump

Summer learning loss is a significant problem, however lucky for us Math is all around us every day. Here are three fun ways that parents can help their children practice their Math skills all summer long.

1. Highlight Math is everyday activities. Whether you are shopping for groceries, cooking cupcakes or watching a sports games encourage your child to calculate the change and measure the correct proportions or figure out a statistic for a player’s shot.

2. Play Math games. Learning Math doesn’t have to involve worksheets. Play card games, Yahtzee, Blokus, Monopoly or check out our videos on four simple Math games you can play with your child all year round to build Math skills.

3. Read Math stories together. Stop by your local library to check out books that include math-focused stories. While you are there play a board game or finish a puzzle. Make learning Math a fun and enjoyable experience for your entire family.
