Celebrating Advent

Posted On Monday November 30, 2020

The Advent season has arrived and as a Catholic community our schools and offices are alive with hope, love, joy and peace. Students and staff are busy decorating their classrooms, offices and homes to brighten their spaces for Christmas. Advent is a time for reflection, prayer and acts of charity as we prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of Jesus Christ.

We invite you to follow our Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee on Twitter @DCPIC and Facebook as they share a daily Advent activity that you can do as a class or family to spread joy and love this Christmas. It’s important to spread and share the joy of Advent and therefore we invite you to share your activities with us via social media #DCDSBFaith and #Advent.

The Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee have also pulled together some crafts and activities such as making an Advent wreath or Jesse tree at home. You can find these ideas at https://www.dcpic.ca/en/news-and-events/advent-activities.aspx.

Our schools and parishes are also participating in a number of initiatives to help others in their local communities. A number of schools are collecting gift cards to help make Christmas special for anyone in need of assistance.

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you and your family to celebrate Advent in a new and profound way this year. Wishing everyone a joyous Advent and Merry Christmas!
