Congratulations to Rosemary Leclair, Superintendent of Education, on her retirement from the Durham Catholic District School Board effective August 31, 2020!

Rosemary joined the Durham Catholic District School Board in 1992 where she served in various roles including elementary core French and classroom teacher at St. Monica Catholic School and St Francis de Sales Catholic School, school administrator at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School, Our Lady of the Bay Catholic School and St. Theresa Catholic School; and Supervisory Officer over the last six years. She also served in the role of Supervisory Officer at the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board with responsibility for the Clarington Family of Schools, Faith Development, Elementary Student Success and Early Years programming. 

As Superintendent of Education at DCDSB, Rosemary oversaw multiple portfolios, including Family of Schools supervision in Pickering, Uxbridge, Brock, Oshawa and Scugog, Teaching and Learning Services, Early Years, Communications, Faith Formation, Parent Engagement, Equity and Inclusive Education, Indigenous Education, Partnership Development and Community Use of Schools, Continuing Education, and International Education.

Rosemary earned her Masters of Education in Educational Administration from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education – University of Toronto, and both Bachelor of Education and Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts (Linguistics and French) from the University of Western Ontario. 

In addition to her roles as a Catholic educator and administrator, Rosemary has engaged in significant provincial and system leadership over the course of her career through various associations and committees, including the Institute for Catholic Education Initial Teacher Education Committee, the Catholic Curriculum Corporation, the ShareLife Advisory Committee, Durham Region’s Early Learning Planning Table, Ontario Tech University Teacher Education Advisory Committee, Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation Gala Chair, among others. She also demonstrates leadership through her parish community at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Pickering, serving as lector and member of the parish volunteer screening committee, and in her community as a long-standing member of the organizing committee for the Pickering Terry Fox Run.

Rosemary’s roots in Catholic education began in her hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario through the exemplary formation she received in the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and the deep commitment to faith demonstrated by her large Italian family. Rosemary wishes to express her gratitude to her colleagues at both DCDSB and PVNCCDSB for their friendship and support over the years.  She is most grateful for her family, husband Michael and two sons Alexander and Michael (both Catholic graduates of DCDSB) for their unwavering love and support.
