"May God fill you with joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." (Romans 15:13)

St. John Bosco Catholic School's Grade 1 and 2 students certainly abound in HOPE and have recently brought much HOPE to a senior citizen. Who could have imagined that an unassuming papier-mâché dachshund dog named Murphy would be the vehicle of so much HOPE and LOVE? As it happened, Murphy, originally belonging to a local senior citizen, was donated to the annual parish bazaar due to her imminent move to a new home.

Ms. Bow Der, our Grade 1 and 2 teacher, while attending the St. Joseph the Worker Christmas Bazaar, spotted Murphy sitting alone. On that cold November day, Ms. Bow Der was inspired to bring Murphy to her classroom because she thought that it would be the perfect home for this papier-mâché dachshund. She was excited to find ways to include Murphy in the daily lives of her students.

Upon Murphy’s arrival to Ms. Bow Der’s classroom, the young students fell in love with him and wanted to do something kind for its original owner. Each student decided to write her a special letter over the Christmas season and upon their arrival she was overwhelmed by the affection and gratitude they expressed. These letters were so well received that the children have resolved to write to her monthly. This lovely gesture is very fitting as DCDSB is celebrating the year of HOPE! These little ones can definitely be proud of the HOPE they have shared!
