DCDSB Announces the Appointment of Acting Superintendent of Education

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mariah O’Reilly to the position of Acting Superintendent of Education effective May 1, 2020.

Mariah O’Reilly has almost 30 years of experience as a classroom teacher, elementary consultant, literacy coach and school administrator with the board. Her committee work includes involvement with the System Math Leadership Team, Chair of the Kindergarten Committee and Lead of Growing Success Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools. Since 2017, she has worked for the Ministry of Education as the Student Achievement Officer.

Ms. O’Reilly is a graduate of King’s College at the University of Western Ontario, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts; and York University where she earned her Bachelor of Education. She earned her Master’s of Literacy Education at Mount St. Vincent University. In her commitment to service, Ms. O’Reilly is a participant in many community fundraising events for the Catholic Family Services of Durham, Terry Fox Run, St. Vincent de Paul and Denise House. She is a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where she has volunteered and led the Children’s Liturgy.

“I am pleased to welcome Ms. O’Reilly to our Senior Administrative Team,” said Tracy Barill, Director of Education. “A servant leader, she has demonstrated her outstanding ability to foster relationships with others, and make impactful change through her school leadership and service. I am confident that her experience within DCDSB and the Ministry of Education will build on the strength of our leadership team,” she said.

The Board of Trustees looks forward to working with Ms. O’Reilly. “We are pleased to accept the appointment,” said Janice Oldman, Chair of the Board. “Ms. O’Reilly is a compassionate leader with a strong sense of faith who will help guide our strategic directions as we remain focused on our commitment to Excellence, Equity and Engagement,” she said.  

Ms. O’Reilly looks forward to joining the team. “I am very excited to join the committed and dynamic team of senior administrators at the Durham Catholic District School Board. It will be my privilege to support the home, school and parish connection as we work to assure the best outcomes for our students,” she said.
