Durham Catholic District School Board to host 6th Annual TEDxStMaryCSSchool event

Posted On Wednesday April 18, 2018

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is excited to host students from Durham Catholic secondary and elementary schools at the 6th Annual TEDxStMaryCSSSchool event on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. The theme for this year is Flashpoint

“A Flashpoint is a point at which someone or something bursts suddenly into action or being and, with the help of our speakers and their ideas, this event will be the flashpoint for our students, prompting them to go out and change their world,” says Craig Zimmer, Ted-Ed Innovative Educator at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School and TEDxStMaryCSSSchool organizer.

Dr. Julielynn Wong, a Harvard-educated physician-scientist, innovator, and educator will set the stage for this series of TED-like talks, sharing her life's mission to take technology to the extreme to benefit the world.

The event will also feature other speakers, including students from the TED-Ed Club, a program designed to support students in discovering, exploring and presenting their big ideas in the form of short, TED-style talks.

Date: Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: The Embassy Church, 416 Taunton Road West, Oshawa

In the spirit of TED’s “ideas worth spreading,” the event will bring together student leaders from across DCDSB to share a TED-like experience. A series of dynamic speakers will be featured to empower young minds and encourage students to move forward as self-directed, responsible lifelong learners.

Funded through the Board’s Student Success and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, TEDx is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences that are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by TED.
