On Thursday, December 5, 2019 Principal Assenza together with staff and students from St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School walked to their old school site on Michael Boulevard in Whitby to watch the demolition of their school building. The students and staff are currently sharing space at the board's St. John the Evangelist Catholic School site located just north of St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic School.

Students and staff cheered and watched in wonder as a bulldozer pulled down parts of the school’s gym. "There is a lot that goes into the demolition of building and the building of new schools," said Superintendent of Facilities, Scott Grieve. "Watching today's demolition may inspire some students to pursue careers in the construction or electrical trades."

The Ministry of Education has approved funding to rebuild a new Catholic school on the existing Michael Boulevard site. The new school will include space for more than 320 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The new school will also include a child care room and an EarlyON Child and Family Centre room to provide more families with high-quality child care.
