Statement on Interim Anti-Racism Policy

Posted On Thursday June 23, 2022

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) has heard the concerns about the interim Anti-Racism Policy (PO200) from the Black community in Durham Region and the general public. The DCDSB remains genuinely and irrevocably committed to equity, the elimination of all forms of racism and discrimination in the board. Having seen and heard the comments regarding the interim policy from May 9, 2022, Board Policy Meeting, we understand that this has hurt students, families, staff, and the community. Knowing that “when one of us suffers we all suffer” (1 Corinthians 12:26-27) - we are sorry to have hurt members of our community and we deeply regret this.

We will be working with the DCDSB’s Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee to establish a forum for Trustees to hear the concerns of students, families, staff and community members. We value our relationship with all our communities.

Sincerely,

Morgan Ste. Marie             Tracy Barill
