Catholic Leadership Positions

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is inviting applications from those interested in the following Catholic education leadership positions:

  • Elementary Vice Principal;
  • Secondary Vice Principal

All candidates for consideration must:

  • hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing);
  • have completed or be in the process of completing the Religion Specialist qualification;
  • have demonstrated exceptional professional teaching and administrative experience: and
  • have successfully completed, or be in the process of completing Principal’s Qualification Program (PQP), Part 1.

Please note that interviews, which may include a written exercise and presentation, will be scheduled between April 17th to April 19th, 2023 at the DCDSB Catholic Education Centre (CEC). Selected candidates will be provided additional information with respect to the written and presentation components at time of contact.

Successful applicants will be added to the leadership roster for a two-year period. Vacancies will be filled by administrative appointment from the roster. Any applicant approved to the leadership roster and not assigned to a vacancy within two years will be asked to reapply.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Operations and Maintenance and is primarily responsible for maintaining and altering the property of the Board as directed.  This will include constructing, installing and/or repairing as required.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects the proper grade and type of materials required for the construction and/or alterations required to be completed.
  • Perform the construction and/or alterations in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Repairs and/or installs building hardware as requested.
  • Regularly inspects doors, windows, blackboards, furniture, bulletin boards, tiles, baseboards, hardware, etc. and makes any necessary repairs and/or adjustments as required.
  • Completes all carpentry repairs and construction structures in the Board properties.
  • Repairs, adjusts and makes all necessary alterations to playground equipment in school locations.
  • Performs other related functions as requested and deemed necessary by the Manager Custodial/Maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • Minimum secondary school diploma.
  • Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship, preferred.

 

Experience

  • Licensed Carpenter.
  • Three (3) years additional experience in carpentry.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work with and understand blueprints.
  • Familiarity with computerized work systems.
  • Clean driver’s abstract and valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Criminal background check suitable to the Board is a condition of employment

Position Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION: 
Title: Child and Youth Counsellor
Location/Department: Student Services
Reports to: Senior Manager, Social Work and Child Youth Counsellors/Chief Attendance Officer
Affiliation: Association of Professionals Student Services Personnel
Salary Grade/Range: As per collective agreement
POSITION SUMMARY
The Child and Youth Counsellor works on a multi-disciplinary team under the administrative authority of the Senior Manager, Social Work and Child Youth Counsellors/Chief Attendance Officer. While in a school, the Child and Youth Counsellor is subject to the administrative authority of the Principal. There will be ongoing communication between school personnel, Coordinator and Child and Youth Counsellor regarding referred students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides emotional/social support necessary for the student to function in his/her school setting;
• Advocates for the student in connection with the school, home and community;
• Provides group programs and confidential individual counselling while focusing on the individual’s program, plan and safety;
• Works cooperatively with school personnel and Parent(s)/Guardian(s) to support the student within the school; and
• Assists the school in promoting a positive environment:
• Recommends resource material;
• Assists with intervention strategies;
• Supports staff and students during emotional crises;
• Provides in-class observation and feedback;
• Facilitates classroom programs;
• Provides workshops and in-service programs in areas relative to specific needs, as requested; and
• Other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• Completion of a Child and Youth Worker Diploma.
Experience
• Professional experience in a school board setting is considered an asset.
• Extensive experience with behaviour management intervention, preferred.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines.
• Ability to foster and maintain excellent working relationships with community partners.
• Excellent crisis intervention skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, time management and oral and written communication skills.
• Must have valid driver’s license/insurance and consistent use of a vehicle.
• Criminal Background Check suitable to the Board is a condition of employment.

  • Follow lesson plans and/or prepare lesson plans according to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels and student needs.
  • Implementation of CLB related activities and competencies.
  • Complete required reports and student attendance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Teachers of English as a Second Language (TESL) Ontario certification (OCELT).
  • Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) training and experience.
  • CLB bootcamp certificate.
  • Experience using History of Assessment, Referral, and Training Systems (HARTs) for recording course data, learner data, and attendance.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain records, artifacts, and other supporting documents as required.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience integrating technology into the classroom.
