WE ARE HIRING OCCASIONAL TEACHERS!

To view or apply for an occasional teacher position, candidates must create or login to their existing Apply to Education (ATE) account.

All recommended candidates will be required to register and upload the following to their ATE portfolio:

  • Cover letter and resume; 
  • Certificate of Qualification/Interim Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Teachers (in good standing).  New graduates pending OCT certification are welcome to apply.
  • Pastoral Reference Letter (Archdiocese of Toronto) or a letter from your Roman Catholic parish priest on parish letterhead (dated within one year); 
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector suitable to the Board (dated within one year);

Designated Early Childhood Educators
Designated Early Childhood Educators for July 2023 Summer Rays Learning Program

The Durham Catholic District School Board invites applications from Designated Early Childhood Educators interested in the Summer Learning Program for Kindergarten to Grade 1. The program will provide an opportunity for Designated Early Childhood Educators to participate in this program. All positions are subject to enrolment and funding. 

Interested applicants are invited to submit a one-page letter expressing interest in the July Summer Learning Programs. Letters can be sent by e-mail to hr@dcdsb.ca on or before Friday, May 12, 2023 by 4:00 p.m. Please add “ECE for Summer Learning Programs” in the e-mail subject line. 

 

Program details are as follows: 

Program Duration: Tuesday, July 4 to Thursday, July 27, 2023 (Monday to Thursday each week) 

NOTE: There will be one paid 3-hour training session in June prior to the program commencing. 

Location: Elementary Schools in Oshawa, Whitby and Ajax. 

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (tentative) 

Rate of Pay: $31.25 

Position: Designated Early Childhood Educator 

The programs will be designed to support closing gaps in literacy and numeracy for students achieving at below standards in Language Arts and/or Mathematics. 

DECEs will actively participate in the daily instruction and will support students in a classroom setting and on various field trips/excursions. 

 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have an expertise in the early learning classroom setting and demonstrate a willingness to support students. Certified with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (in good standing). Experience with the Summer Learning Program is desired. 

 

Successful applicants will be reporting to Michael Goff & Jennifer Brown, Principal and Vice Principal of Summer Rays Programs.

Applications are currently being accepted for Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator positions. The successful applicants must hold Certification in Good Standing from the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.

Educational Assistant for July 2023 Summer Rays Learning Program

The Durham Catholic District School Board invites applications from Educational Assistants interested in the Summer Learning Program for Grades 2-6. The program will provide an opportunity for Educational Assistants to participate in this program. All positions are subject to enrolment and funding.

Program details are as follows:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Human Resource Services, the Human Resource Associate is a high functioning, organized, and efficient self-starter who will provide a sophisticated level of support to the Human Resource Services department using their excellent analytical skills and advanced abilities in highly administrative and automated environments.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the administration of the recruitment and selection process including preparing job postings, liaising with advertising representatives to facilitate external job advertisements, administrative support for interviews and testing, drafting and distributing correspondence, monitoring completion of pre-hire conditions, maintenance of records, and new employee   sign-ups;
  • Monitor, update, maintain, and process personnel and payroll changes in accordance with collective agreements and terms of employment using appropriate source documents in adherence to pay deadlines that includes maintaining accurate employee records using a human resources information system;
  • Monitor the submission and reconcile attendance reporting and usage for all employee groups, including follow-up as needed;
  • Provide leave and vacation entitlement information to supervisors and employees in accordance with collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment for non-union staff;
  • Maintain and disseminate supply lists for all employee groups;
  • Conduct research and extract and analyze data as requested by the Senior Manager of Human Resource or Human Resource Consultants;
  • Provide administrative support to the Board’s attendance support and disability management programs for both occupational (WSIB) and non-occupational illnesses and/or disabilities including assisting with processing, follow-up, management and tracking of claims and costs, and preparing correspondence and documentation such as Return-to-Work agreements/accommodation plans, sick leave and vacation entitlements memos to staff, etc., and respond to related inquiries from staff accordingly;
  • Monitor SFE automated system to ensure daily vacancies are covered;
  • Prepare and create a wide variety of ad hoc and recurring reports, correspondence, and other documents for both internal and external stakeholders including the Ministry and unions;
  • Perform general administrative services for the Human Resource Services department including maintaining personnel and other files both paper and electronic, responding to various telephone inquiries;
  • Assist in other duties as required by the Senior Manager of Human Resource Services and Human Resource Consultants.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education
  •  Post secondary education, preferably focused in Human Resources;
  •  CHRP/CHRL designation or working towards this designation.

 

Experience
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a Human Resources role, preferably in a generalist capacity with a school board.

 

Other Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of relevant employment legislation (i.e. Employment Standards Act, WSIA, OHSA, MFIPPA, AODA, Human Rights Code, SBCBA, OLRA);
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced  team and office environment with excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to function effectively within a team, as well as with administrators, managers, staff, outside agencies and others;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an excellent telephone manner;
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information;
  • Ability to interpret collective agreements, Board and department policies and procedures, and respond to related inquiries;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills with an above average aptitude for figures with accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment while coordinating and monitoring variable workloads and recognizing departmental priorities;
  • Self-starter with an aptitude for producing timely, accurate work in a demanding and deadline oriented environment and;
  • Have a customer service mentality and understand all you do has a larger impact that helps make our HR team and School Board excel, while creating a positive employee experience for the employees we serve.
