Parents and guardians are reminded that you must screen your child for symptoms every day before they come to school. You can use the Ontario Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 self-assessment tool for this purpose.
If your child has any symptoms of COVID-19 or if they are ill, they should not attend school. You must report your child’s absence from school by contacting their school directly. Students who become ill during the day will be isolated and must be picked up from school as soon as possible. Symptomatic students will not be able to use student transportation.
Please consult the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 reference document for symptoms (PDF) for other clinical features of COVID-19 and when atypical signs and symptoms of COVID-19 should be considered, particularly in children.

Symptoms of COVID-19
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 (PDF) include:
- Fever (temperature of 37.8°C or greater)
- New or worsening cough
- Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
Other symptoms of COVID-19 can include:
- Sore throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- New olfactory or taste disorder(s)
- Nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
- Runny nose, or nasal congestion (in absence of underlying reasons for these symptoms such as seasonal allergies, post nasal drip, etc.)

Tracking and Reporting
Update for January 12, 2021:
As per the Ministry of Education, confirmed cases of COVID-19 for students and staff will not be updated on the Tracking and Reporting page for the extended period of online learning, January 11 through 22, 2021.
If there are any confirmed cases of students with special education needs who may be physically learning in schools, and/or teachers and staff who are working in-person, communication will be sent directly to those who are learning and/or working within the school.
For the health, safety and well-being of our communities, we are committed to keeping the public informed about confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our DCDSB schools and offices. Below is a listing of our facilities and the number of reported cases, which will be updated based on the direction of the Durham Region Health Department and reflective of requirements ordered by the Ministry of Health.
Effective January 7, 2021, 124 confirmed cases have been reported within our school communities (Ajax, Brooklin, Oshawa, Pickering and Whitby). 68 of those cases have been resolved (Ajax, Whitby, Pickering). Parents and guardians of the impacted school communities have been notified directly by the school principal via e-mail.
When a case has been resolved in accordance with public health, the status will change from confirmed case(s) to resolved case(s).
