Canada is globally known for its natural wonders; from its huge mountains to calm lakes, beautiful nature and wild life. Among all this, discover Canada's many different cultures and climates that make our country very multi-cultural and an ideal study-abroad destination.
Two, three, or four week educational programs are available throughout the summer for individuals and chaperoned groups. In addition to enriching English as a Second Language classes, these programs also include exciting afternoon activities to enhance the language learning process. Activities include, but are not limited to, cultural, athletic and leisure events. We will take our students to visit famous universities in Canada to see their facilities, libraries, dormitories and classrooms.
The Durham Catholic District School Board, which is located approximately 30 kilometres from the City of Toronto and is part of the Greater Toronto area, offers a range of programs and services to meet the needs of all students. The board serves approximately 21,150 elementary and secondary students in 39 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools and 6 alternative and continuing education sites throughout the Region of Durham. Durham Region is located close to Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Ontario Science Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario and many other attractions. Students will have an opportunity to visit some of these places to learn about Canadian culture and way of life.
Upon arrival in Durham, students will be assessed on their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills based on the Canadian Benchmark. Upon completion of the Summer Camp, a Certificate of Attendance and English proficiency level certificate will be issued to all students. Students wishing to continue their studies in Canada will find the Summer Program an informative and entertaining learning experience to practice English, getting to know the ways of life in Canada, our educational facilities, our communities and our beautiful weather. The most important thing is that Canadians are friendly and ready to welcome people from all over the world to our great, and safe, country.
Details regarding the program include:
Arrival in Canada: Campers will be picked up at the airport and taken to their homestay location to meet the host and their family.
Welcome and Goodbye: A Welcome lunch or dinner will be arranged at the beginning of the camp and a Goodbye lunch or dinner will be hosted by DCDSB before campers return to their home countries.
Student Assessment: Upon arrival in Durham, students will be assessed on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills based on the Canadian Benchmark. Upon completion of the Summer Camp, a Certificate of Attendance and English proficiency level certificate will be issued to all students
Classroom experience: Campers attending between July 11 - July 22 will team up with a local student in a school to experience Ontario classroom learning environment. Campers attending camp between July 25 - August 5 will be placed in an ESL class to learn English in Canadian context.
Outdoor and sport activities: Campers will be supervised by DCDSB in school environment to play basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton and etc. Arrangements will be made to provide an opportunity to visit a Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre. Campers will visit some of the interesting places in and around Toronto, such as the Metro Zoo, Centre Island, the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, Wonderland and Niagara Falls. Campers will also explore the Toronto Harbour Front, Downtown Toronto, the PATH, the Eaton Centre and more. Walking and extensive physical exercises will be involved in this camp, anyone who chooses not to participate should let the camp coordinator knows in advance.
Shopping: Campers will have the opportunities to shop in Toronto to bring souvenirs back home.
Activities on weekends: Campers may choose to spend time with Host Family or trips arranged by DCDSB.
Visiting College and University: DCDSB will arrange college/university tour for campers to learn more about higher education opportunities in Canada.
