Just a reminder that the Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census ends today, April 29, 2022. We invite you to share your voice by completing the voluntary and optional census today! Thank you to everyone who has participated in the student census this week! Your answers will help improve the Durham Catholic District School Board community and will ensure that every student succeeds.

This voluntary and optional census will help the DCDSB understand and support the diversity of students and families, eliminate barriers to student success, enrich students’ learning by providing the right supports at the right time while making schools a safer, more welcoming space to belong to. If you are not comfortable answering a question please move to the next question. If you do not wish to participate in the census then you are not required to complete the survey.

Grade 9 to 12 Families On April 25, 2022, students in Grades 9 to 12 will complete the Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census during class time. The census will take 10-15 minutes to complete.
Students will receive a unique link to the Permission Click email to their DCDSB email accounts.
It is important to remember that the is a voluntary census. If you are not comfortable answering a question, you can simply skip it. This student census will help the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) understand and support the diversity of students and families, eliminate barriers to student success, enrich students’ learning by providing the right supports at the right time while making schools a safer, more welcoming space to belong to. The Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census is fast approaching! Here are three things you can do by completing the voluntary student census that will help the Durham Catholic District School Board:
- Stand up in order to shift change in the right direction.
- Be counted by answering questions about your identity, ability, race, culture and gender.
- Be heard by voicing your opinions and ensuring that your identity is represented now and in the future of the Durham Catholic District School Board.

March 8, 2022 - Preview the Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census Questions |

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is inviting all Grade 4 to 12 students to participate in a voluntary and confidential Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census from April 25 to 29, 2022. The Student Census will involve the collection of demographic data mandated by the Ministry of Education to help us better understand the backgrounds, needs and experiences of our students and local communities.
Parents and guardians of students in Grades 4 to 8, will complete the online census together with their child(ren), while students in Grades 9 to 12 will complete the census sometime at school.
At this time, we are pleased to provide families and students with an opportunity to view the survey questions in advance at dcdsb.ca/studentcensus. The census includes questions based on the Ontario Human Rights Code. They include Indigenous identity, ethnic origin, race, religion or spiritual affiliation, language, gender identity, and disability. Some questions are required by the Anti-Racism Data Standards, under the Anti-Racism Act (2107).
The information that will be collected in April will help us:
- Better meet the needs of our students and school communities.
- Address barriers to students’ well-being, achievement and success.
- Establish effective programs and allocate resources where they are needed the most.
We want to hear the voices of our students and families! Participation in the census is voluntary; you can choose not to participate or only answer some of the questions. All responses will be confidential. Click here for a list of frequently asked questions and answers regarding the census.

November 4, 2021 - Join us for Upcoming Student Census Engagement Sessions |

Dear Parents and Guardians,
DCDSB's Student Census Steering Committee is holding upcoming virtual engagement sessions parents and guardians with students in Grades 4-12, and community members in November 2021. The consultation sessions will provide the community with an opportunity to review the questions that schools boards across Ontario are required to ask and obtain feedback and ideas into the three additional questions the board will include in the census.
The Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census will collect quality and confidential student demographic data that will enable evidence-based decision making, while helping to remove barriers to student success. Our goal is to:
- Understand and support the diversity of students and families;
- Eliminate barriers to student success; and
- Enrich students’ learning by providing the right supports, at the right time, while making schools a safer, more welcoming space to belong.
Staff, students, parents, and community partners are welcome to attend the following virtual sessions:
DCDSB’s Stand Up, Be Counted, Be Heard Student Census is a voluntary survey that offers students in Grades 4 to 12 an opportunity to share their identify, culture, race, ethnicity, gender and ability. The survey will be conducted during the week of April 25 – 29, 2022.
