Report Cards & Transcripts

Report Cards

The main goal of assessment and evaluation is to improve student learning. Growing Success, Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools, acknowledges that assessment of learning is key to a student's engagement and success.

Report cards occur at certain points in the school year. While communication about a student's learning and progress should happen on an ongoing basis via:

  • parent-teacher or parent-student-teacher conferences;
  • portfolios of student work;
  • student-led conferences;
  • interviews;
  • phones calls;
  • checklists; and/or
  • informal reports.

Formal communication by report cards happens three times during a school year. All students in Grades 1 to 12 receive a fall progress report card and two provincial report cards - one in mid-winter and the other at the end of the school year.

Transcripts

The Ontario Student Transcript (OST) is an official record of a student's academic credits earned at the secondary school level in the Province of Ontario. Students and parents can request a transcript for many reasons such as post-secondary institutions, apprenticeships, and employers.

Contact the Guidance Department of the secondary school you last attended to request a transcript. Indicate your full name, date of birth, the year you graduated, and your contact phone number.
Please note we do not send transcripts to third-party recipients.

If you will not be the person picking up the transcript, please advise who will be doing so on your behalf. Please allow three (3) business days for processing.

All secondary schools keep student transcripts for 55 years.
