August 3, 2016 – The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) have formed an academic partnership for DCDSB’s international students who are interested in continuing their studies in Canada after graduating from high school.

On July 12, 2016, Tim McTiernan, PhD, President and Vice-Chancellor, UOIT and Anne O’Brien, Director of Education, DCDSB signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding which offers international students graduating from the Durham Catholic District School Board pre-admission to the university, pending final acceptance based on student grades and other admission criteria. The agreement also intends to promote co-operation in international student recruitment, academic training, and collaborative research.

“We are pleased to announce this formal agreement with our valued partners at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in our commitment to offering quality education for international students, and providing seamless pathways into post-secondary education here in our very own Durham Region,” said Director O’Brien.

The agreement enables both academic institutions to explore and collaborate on programs, research activities, exchange programs and other academic activities.

“The University of Ontario Institute of Technology takes pride in its long-standing partnership with the Durham Catholic District School Board, and looks forward to working with the board to help further international student enrolment in Durham Region. By creating more global classrooms in our secondary and post-secondary school systems, this initiative will help enrich cultural diversity across the entire region,” said President McTiernan.
