DCDSB 2024-2025 EQAO and OSSLT Results

Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) has received the latest reports from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), which provide valuable insights into student achievement across the province. The 2024-2025 results include data from Primary and Junior assessments, Grade 9 Mathematics, and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). These reports, alongside report card grades, learning skills, and classroom evaluations, help educators, students, and families celebrate successes and identify areas for growth to support student achievement.

DCDSB is pleased to report that compared to 2023-2024 achievement results, the Grade 3 assessments improved in all areas, Grade 6 assessments improved in Reading and Writing, Grade 9 Math results increased and OSSLT results remained steady above the provincial standard.

We have prepared a high-level summary that shows a comparison between 2023-2024 data and the 2024-2025 data.

Results at a Glance:

  • Grade 3 Reading and Writing: Reading proficiency grew to 75%, an increase of 6% from last year. There was also a slight increase in writing, with a result of 61%, which marks a 1% year-over-year increase
  • Grade 3 Math: Students exhibited gains of 4%, with 60% of students now meeting or exceeding the provincial standard.
  • Grade 6 Reading and Writing: 87% of DCDSB students were at or above the provincial standard for reading showing a gain of 2%. Writing results also exhibited gains, with 86% exceeding the standard, marking an increase of 2%.
  • Grade 6 Math: Results reflect a decrease of 3%, with 48% of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard.
  • Grade 9 Math: DCDSB students’ success rate in relation to the provincial standard improved to 55% reflecting a total gain of 3% since 2023-2024.
  • .Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT): 88% of first-time eligible students passed the test, which is 3% above the provincial average and remains consistent with previous OSSLT data.

DCDSB is proud of the positive movement seen in areas that have increased, while continuously looking to improve areas where there are learning gaps between provincial data and board data.

EQAO data will be reviewed at the central level and at individual schools in an effort to continue to address gaps and provide supports to students. EQAO results will be reviewed in addition to aligning professional learning with high-impact instructional practices, using diagnostic assessments with targeted interventions, and continuing support from Numeracy and Literacy Intervention Teachers in priority schools. Additionally, improvement planning will be incorporated into the DCDSB’s Student Achievement Plan and Math Action Plan.

The Minister of Education also announced the creation of a new advisory body to review how Ontario supports student achievement. Please see a letter from the Minister for more information.
