DCDSB Celebrates 30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance and Tomorrow’s Visionaries

February marks Black History Month - a time to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and excellence of Black communities while deepening our understanding of their history and impact on Canadian society. This year’s national theme, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations - From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries,” invites us to reflect on the enduring contributions of Black Canadians and to look ahead with hope and determination. Update Your Direction of School Support

Ensure you support Catholic education in Durham Region by directing your school support to the English-Separate system with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). To verify whether you are registered as an English Catholic school supporter, check the assessment section of your tax bill or Property Assessment Notice.

MPAC has an online option for families and community members to be able to update their school support. Catholic parents and property owners can visit the following website to begin the online process of updating their school support. Provincial Learning Supports for Families

  • EQAO Webinars for Parents and Guardians: Join the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) for free live webinars for parents and guardians. Families are invited to attend the sessions listed on our website here.
  • Free Online Math Tutoring with TVO Mathify: Free live math tutoring is available through TVO Mathify for students in Grades 4-12. Students can access free 1:1 on demand math tutoring with Ontario Certified Math Teachers at home and can benefit from the interactive tools in a classroom setting. Click here to read more.

Ms. Zuccaro's Grade 3/4 Class Awarded Third Place in Province-Wide Video Contest

Congratulations to Ms. Zuccaro’s Grade 3/4 class at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School for placing third in the OCSTA Short Video Contest Elementary Level! This province-wide video contest asked participants to create a 2-minute video demonstrating how they are “Pilgrims of Hope: On the Path to Holiness” in their Catholic school communities.

Introducing the Positive Pythons at St. Patrick Catholic School

St. Patrick Catholic School is proud to launch an exciting new wellness initiative led by four incredible Grade 7 students—The Positive Pythons! As part of the TAMI Program (Taking Action, Making Impact), these student leaders are stepping up to support our school community by sharing daily tips, strategies, and reminders that help us care for our minds, bodies, and overall well‑being.

DCDSB Let's Talk Day Brings Special Visitors to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School

Students at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School had two special visitors today for DCDSB Let’s Talk Day! Our DCDSB Mental Health mascot Phoebe the Bee buzzed through the halls with her pal Ellie the Elephant, helping classrooms start meaningful conversations about breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health. Together, they reminded students that it’s always okay to talk, listen, and support one another.

Grade 7/8 Mental Health Literacy Modules: Supporting Student Well‑Being

The Ministry of Education has introduced a series of Mental Health Literacy modules for Grades 7 and 8, designed to strengthen the existing expectations in Strand D of the Health and Physical Education curriculum. Students at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic School created a video as part of the Grade 8 Mental Health Literacy Module. Advancing Human Rights and Equity

Improving Black Student Success: First Session of the 2025–2026 Equity Invitational Learning Series

On January 13, 2026, the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), in partnership with the Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee hosted the first session of the 2025–2026 Equity Invitational Learning Series.

Dr. Laura Mae Lindo led the session, titled ‘Improving Black Student Success: Dreams Delayed Report Findings and Collaborative Next Steps’. Click here to read more.

CABS March Break Recreational Camp

DCDSB's Coach/Advocates for Black Students (CABS) invite Grade 7 and 8 students to register for the March Break Recreational Camp. This camp will take place March 16 - March 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Archbishop Denis O'Connor Catholic High School (80 Mandrake Street, Ajax).

Students will participate in a variety of recreational activities aimed at building leadership skills, fitness skills, peer relationships and community building. Spaces are limited! Please click here to register and to learn more.

Fish Hatcheries at St. Joseph Catholic School (Oshawa) and Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic School

St. Joseph Catholic School and Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic School in Oshawa have received brook trout eggs from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and have begun a meaningful journey of caring for these new relatives. Click here to read more.

Kindergarten Students Represent the Number Six

Kindergarten students at DCDSB have been practicing their math skills with math manipulatives. Students were asked how many ways they could visually represent the number six? Some students showed their numbers in two rows, while some showed theirs in a single line and others used a ten frame. Check out the creative ways students showed their numbers!


Action, Mystery, Drama ... St. Mary’s Accelerated Reader Program Has It All!

Grade 9 and 10 students enrolled in English classes at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School recently completed another successful, exciting semester of reading by participating in the Accelerated Reader Program. Click here to read more.


Celebrating Child Care Assistant Training Program Graduates

On January 22, 2026, staff at the Archbishop Anthony Meagher Catholic Continuing Education Centre proudly recognized the dedicated adult learners who completed the Child Care Assistant Training Program. After 18 weeks of intensive study, including nine weeks of hands on placement in childcare centres, graduates earned their certificates and are now ready to begin meaningful careers educating and caring for young children. Click here to read more.
