Durham Catholic District School Board Hosts Violence Threat Risk Assessment Train-the-Trainer Program

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), in partnership with the Centre for Trauma Informed Practices (CTIP), hosted the Level One Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) Train-the-Trainer program in Oshawa from October 21 to 23, 2026.

The three-day training brought together education and community professionals from across Ontario and British Columbia to strengthen their capacity to respond effectively to threats of violence. Participants completed the specialized Train-the-Trainer certification, a requirement for becoming a Level One VTRA trainer through CTIP.

Violence Threat Risk Assessment is a collaborative, evidence-informed process used to identify and assess behaviours that may pose a risk of violence, while ensuring that appropriate supports and interventions are put in place. The Train-the-Trainer program equips participants with the knowledge and facilitation skills required to deliver Level One VTRA training within their own school boards, organizations and communities.

By hosting the provincial training, DCDSB continues to demonstrate its commitment to student well-being, prevention-focused practices, and professional learning that supports positive outcomes for children and youth. The partnership with CTIP reflects a shared dedication to building the capacity of educators and community agencies to respond effectively to potential safety concerns while supporting the well-being of all individuals involved.
