The Schulich Leader Scholarship is among Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate awards, recognizing top students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Each year, 100 scholarships are awarded nationwide, including 50 valued at $120,000 for engineering students.

Kaumudi’s selection reflects her outstanding academic excellence, leadership and commitment to service. Valedictorian of the Class of 2026, she has been an active member of Student Council, Student Senate, the school newspaper, peer tutoring and the Interact Rotary Club. She also founded a nonprofit initiative, organizing a Pi Day fundraiser to support equitable access to education.

At the University of Waterloo, Kaumudi will pursue mechanical engineering as she works toward her goal of becoming a nuclear engineer. “I’m drawn to nuclear engineering because it combines problem-solving with real-world impact,” she said. “I want my work to matter on a global scale.”

Principal Colleen Plouffe praised Kaumudi’s accomplishments and contributions to the school community. “We are very proud of Kaumudi's accomplishments and grateful for the contributions she has made to the Father Leo J. Austin community,” said Ms. Plouffe. “Kaumudi's leadership, community involvement, and academic excellence demonstrate her commitment to living and learning in faith. We are excited for the next stage in Kaumudi's journey and wish her the utmost success as she strives for her future goals.”

The DCDSB community congratulates Kaumudi on this achievement and wishes her continued success in her studies and career.
