Durham Forest of Reading Celebration Brings Together 900+ Student Readers

On May 11, 2026, more than 900 students from both Durham Catholic and Durham District School Boards gathered at the McKinney Centre in Whitby for the annual Durham Forest of Reading Celebration. The event celebrated student achievement in the optional reading program, and featured an author parade, student-led questions, book prize raffles, student-voted awards, and opportunities to lunch and collect autographs with the 20 Canadian authors and illustrators in attendance. Organized by the board library departments, the Durham Forest of Reading Celebration continues to foster a love of reading and highlight Canadian authors, illustrators and books.
