Ear Buds Magazine
During Speech and Hearing Awareness Month, the DCDSB Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) team wanted to raise awareness and understanding of the different ways people communicate while recognizing the challenges that students with hearing loss may experience in their daily lives. Alongside students Jordan, Alex, Robin, Gabriella and Ayden, the D/HH team created Ear Buds Magazine, a project aimed to share student voices, their experiences and their learning. The magazine includes facts about hearing aids, self-advocacy, as well as fun segments such as the “Laughing Zone” and “Dear D/HH Diaries.”
Each student wrote their own biography that shares their story, including their favourite foods, movies, games, sports and their goals for the future. Each biography also includes a section titled “Hearing My Way” which describes the student’s hearing loss and what colour their hearing aids are.
Thank you to the students and D/HH team involved in this meaningful project. Ear Buds Magazine aims to raise awareness and to help others better understand how to support students with hearing loss in a positive and engaging way. Through the voices of students, this initiative helps create a more inclusive community where all students feel seen, heard and empowered to advocate for their needs.
