Grade 2 Students Participate in the Misfit Sock Project

Grade 2 students at St John Paul II Catholic School recently participated in the Misfit Sock Project after reading “The Misfit Sock” by Karen Kiefer. Through this engaging and meaningful story, students explored the idea that their differences are not something to hide, but something to celebrate. The project encouraged students to reflect on belonging, kindness, and the importance of welcoming others who may feel left out or different.

After the read aloud in the library, students discussed how every person is created in God’s image and has inherent worth, just like every sock or misfit has a purpose. Through conversations, activities, and reflection, students were reminded that we are called to include others, stand up for those who may feel excluded, and build communities rooted in love, respect, and compassion.

The Misfit Sock Project was a joyful and faith-filled opportunity for students to live out Gospel values, deepen their understanding of Catholic Social Teachings, and recognize that God’s family is richer because of our differences.
