Honouring Indigenous Aid Exhibit Launches at Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School
On Wednesday, March 25, the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) launched the Honouring First Aid exhibit at Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School.
The Honouring Indigenous Aid exhibit aligns with the Durham Catholic District School Board’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, authentic learning, and honouring Indigenous excellence. This exhibit offers meaningful opportunities for students, staff, and community members to engage in learning that honours the resilience, generosity, and compassion of local First Nation communities. The Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Curve Lake, Hiawatha, and Alderville were First Nations that contributed to Irish Famine relief, making this exhibit especially meaningful.
Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School students and staff had the opportunity to be one of the first classes to see the exhibit firsthand. The exhibit will travel to each high school within the DCDSB to provide every secondary student with the opportunity to learn more about the impactful contributions of First Nations communities.
Thank you to the DCDSB Indigenous Education team, Mark McGowan and Jason King, Irish Consul General Her Excellency Claire Fitzgibbon, and other esteemed guests and colleagues for joining us for the launch of this exhibit.
