Honouring Trustee Jim McCafferty’s Legacy of Service

During a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, the Durham Catholic District School  Board was proud to recognize Trustee Jim McCafferty for his contributions to Catholic education and our community.

After 35 consecutive years serving as Trustee for the City of Pickering, Trustee McCafferty is retiring from the Board, leaving behind a legacy of faith-filled leadership, dedicated service, and advocacy for students, families, and Catholic education. Throughout his decades of service, he has championed student success and well-being while helping to strengthen and support Catholic education across Durham Region.

Trustee McCafferty’s commitment to service extends beyond his role as a trustee. A longtime parishioner of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Parish, he has served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, and lector, while also contributing to numerous organizations and initiatives, including the Knights of Columbus, Scouts Canada, SickKids Hospital, the DCDSB Special Education Advisory Committee, and the Minister of Education’s Special Advisory Council. His dedication has been recognized through several distinguished honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the OCSTA Award of Merit, the Ron St. Marie Council for Exceptional Children Award, and the Access Award.

As part of the celebration at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, Trustee McCafferty received a special blessing and was presented with a letter of congratulations from Bishop Vincent Nguyen, presented by Fr. Eduardo on behalf of the Archdiocese, recognizing his 35 years of faithful service as a Catholic school trustee.

The Durham Catholic District School Board extends its sincere gratitude to Trustee McCafferty for his decades of dedicated leadership and service and wishes him every blessing in retirement.

A special thank you to the staff and students of St. Mary Catholic Secondary School for their role in making this celebration so meaningful, and to Fr. Eduardo for leading the Mass and helping us honour Trustee McCafferty’s remarkable legacy of service.
