Improving Black Student Success: First Session of the 2025–2026 Equity Invitational Learning Series

On January 13, 2026, the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), in partnership with the Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee hosted the first session of the 2025–2026 Equity Invitational Learning Series.

Dr. Laura Mae Lindo led the session, titled ‘Improving Black Student Success: Dreams Delayed Report Findings and Collaborative Next Steps’. Drawing on the OHRC’s call for school boards to shift from process‑based efforts to outcomes‑driven action, Dr. Lindo guided participants through the challenges and opportunities within equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) work, with a thoughtful examination of Black Joy as a pathway to student success.

The session offered families, staff, students, and community members an opportunity to reflect, learn, and build capacity to advance inclusion in their own school communities. Thank you to the Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee for organizing this valuable learning opportunity as part of the Equity Invitational Learning Series.
