St. Christopher Catholic School Student Wins CWL Mary Matthews Public Speaking Contest

Ciaran D., a Grade 7 student at St. Christopher Catholic School, was named the winner of the 2026 CWL Mary Matthews Public Speaking Contest, a competition that encourages Grade 7 and 8 students to develop public speaking skills.

Organized by The Catholic Women’s League of Canada (Toronto Diocesan Council), the contest features both prepared and impromptu speeches centered on faith-based themes. Students are challenged to think critically, communicate effectively, and express their ideas by reflecting Catholic values.

The regional contest, held on March 28, 2026, brought together students from across the region, each demonstrating strong speaking skills and thoughtful engagement with the assigned topics. Ciaran’s speech stood out for its organization, delivery, and meaningful message, earning top recognition from the judges.

Ciaran’s success is a proud moment for St. Christopher Catholic School and the Durham Catholic District School Board!
