St. Mary Catholic Secondary School Wrestling Team Celebrates Historic Fourth Consecutive LOSSA Championship

St. Mary Catholic Secondary School is celebrating a momentous achievement after its wrestling team captured all major titles at the 2026 Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletics (LOSSA) Championship. This year marks the team’s fourth consecutive LOSSA title.

In an extraordinary display of talent, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School secured championships in every division, earning both the male and female titles in the Open category as well as the Cadet (Grade 9-10) division.

In 2025, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School became the first team in LOSSA history to ever win the overall Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Wrestling Championship. This accomplishment was driven by the team’s supportive dynamic and inclusive culture. This year, the team has an 82 member roster, a testament to the welcoming and supportive environment that the team has cultivated.

St. Mary is also proud to announce that 31 student athletes have qualified for the OFSAA Wrestling Championships, surpassing last year’s provincial record of 25 athletes which was set by the school. This is the highest number of qualifiers from any school in Ontario.

“Our team’s success comes from our family-like atmosphere where everyone's contributions make an impact,” said Aaharen and Adsaya, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School students and wrestling team athletes. “Individually, we strive to better ourselves and look forward to our wrestling goals at the next level, and collectively this has strengthened our team.”

Coaches Fred Ortencio, Todd Idenouye, Dan Peternel, and Enzo Antonucci are incredibly proud of their students. “These accomplishments speak volumes about the dedication of our student athletes and the unwavering support of our school community,” said Enzo Antonucci. “We are thrilled to celebrate their hard work and look forward to supporting them as they take on the best in the province at OFSAA.”

With their team spirit and support from the entire school community, the student athletes enter OFSAA more inspired and motivated than ever. St. Mary Catholic Secondary School looks forward to cheering them on at the OFSAA Wrestling Championships in March 2026.
