Supporting Truth and Reconciliation Through Indigenous Education

In the 2026-2027 school year, the Indigenous Education team will support the Board's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through three key areas of focus: supporting educators, supporting students, and strengthening the system.

Educators will be supported through a board-wide focus on Treaty education, Akinoomaagewin (Land as Teacher), and Stories of Place, a job-embedded professional learning initiative that will support Grade 1, 5, and 7 educators in exploring local histories, Indigenous perspectives, and treaty relationships through inquiry-based learning grounded in Williams Treaties Territory. Students will engage in learning that deepens their understanding of place, identity, and their responsibilities as Treaty People through the Indigenous Student Circle and Land-based learning opportunities.

At the system level, the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee and the Catholic Education Centre/Operations Maintenance Administrative Centre Truth and Reconciliation Committee will continue to support learning, reflection, and action through shared leadership in support of reconciliation.
