Sweet Lessons: SHSM Students Earn Certification at Dairy Queen

Father Leo J Austin’s Business, Transportation and Non-Profit Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs had the opportunity to spend a couple of mornings at a local Dairy Queen, earning their Customer Service Certification. The Franchise Owner and General Manager shared their insights on employee training, common customer complaint resolutions, strategies to improve the customer experience and the impact of social media. Students then put their lessons to the test behind the counter in a role-playing scenario by greeting a customer, taking an order and making/serving an ice cream treat. The students fully encapsulated the customer service experience in a competitive and thriving business environment!
SHSM is a specialized high school program that enables students to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma while focusing on a specific economic sector. To learn more about the SHSM programs available at your secondary school, please contact the Guidance department.
