White Pine Event Celebrates Secondary Readers and Canadian Authors

On May 12, 2026, more than 50 students across five DCDSB secondary schools came together at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School for the White Pine Celebration, an annual event recognizing secondary student participation in the Forest of Reading optional reading program. The day began with novel nominee theme-based activities, including meditation, Cricut album cover design, and button making organized by teacher-librarians and public library staff. Following lunch, the day concluded with a keynote by author Léa Taranto, who shared insights from A Drop in the Ocean, her novel offering a personal, compassionate perspective on living with mental illness.
