We are pleased to provide updates on the construction of the new Seaton #1 Catholic School on the webpage below. It is intended to keep students, families, staff, and the broader community informed through monthly updates, photos, and key project milestones.

Project Overview

Construction is underway for our brand-new Catholic elementary school at Hibiscus Drive and Burkholder Avenue in Pickering, scheduled to open in September 2027. This modern, state-of-the-art school will serve 622 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and will include a child care centre and an EarlyON Community Hub, creating a vibrant, faith-filled learning environment for the growing Seaton community.

The new school is being constructed to support the needs of the growing Seaton area of Pickering. This project represents a significant investment in Catholic education and will serve students for generations to come.

Capacity: 622 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8
Funding: The project is supported by $33.8 million in capital funding from the Government of Ontario, and we are grateful for their continued investment in Catholic education in Durham Region.

Exterior Envelop (Window, roof & cladding)	October 2026 – March 2027
Interior Finishing	January - June 2027
Site Works (Field, sidewalks, etc)	April - June 2027
Substantial Completion	June 2027 (Opening for September 2027)

Start (November 2025) to March 2026 Update

Construction activities continued steadily from November 2025 to March 2026. Site preparation work progressed, including grading and underground servicing. Early foundation work began in designated areas, as well as some initial steel structural framing. Weather conditions have been challenging through the cold and snowy winter, with a wet spring, making for difficult conditions on the site.
