Annual STEM Night at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, St. John the Evangelist Catholic School hosted its highly anticipated Annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Night, welcoming families to an evening filled with exciting and educational activities. The event featured seven interactive stations, each designed to engage participants in hands-on STEM learning with a focus on animals and their habitats.

Families had the opportunity to explore:
  1. Coding a Virtual Pet on the Micro:bit: Families learned the basics of programming by creating their very own digital pet.
  2. Creating Animals and Animal Habitats using LEGO: Creativity flowed as families built animals and their habitats with LEGO.
  3. Drawing Animals with the Root Robot: Families used the Root Robot to draw and bring their animal illustrations to life.
  4. Coding a Safari with the Sphero Indi: Families programmed Sphero Indi robots to navigate a safari adventure.
  5. Coding the Butterfly Lifecycle with the Ozobot: Families explored the butterfly lifecycle with Ozobot robots.
  6. Animal Race with Scratch Jr: Families raced their Sprites in a fun, competitive coding challenge.
The success of the evening was made possible by the dedicated educators at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School and the support of the amazing Parent Council. To add to the excitement, numerous prizes from local vendors were given away, thanks to the generous contributions from businesses such as Valentino's, Cobbs Bread, Brooklin Property Management, Reptilia, Flying Squirrel, Puerto Vallarta Cuisine, Oshawa Zoo, and more.

We look forward to next year’s STEM night!
