Career Readiness Day (Tuesday February 28th)
Career Readiness Day 2023 - Exploring the Next Generation
Join us for our Career Readiness Day designed to increase awareness of available career options and pathways to achieving success!
The Congress of Black Women of Canada, Oshawa/Whitby, and Ajax/Pickering Chapters, in partnership with Durham College Diversity Office, will be hosting a Career Readiness Day for youths who self-identify as Black and reside in Durham Region.
This event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 9 am – 2 pm, and will be held at Durham College, 2000 Simcoe Street, North Oshawa. Admission is free and lunch will be provided.
Meet with Black professionals in the community to discuss education and career pathways!
It is our experience that our youth often struggle when deciding the best career path to pursue and this is mainly due to lack of direction; in many cases, their response is to give up in frustration. The high school years provide them with the foundational academic knowledge needed to advance to post-secondary institutions. The aim of the Career Readiness Day is to increase their awareness of available career options and pathways to achieving their personal, professional, and financial goals prior to embarking on their postsecondary education journey.
Overview of the Career Readiness Day
There will be a keynote speaker who will establish a highly engaging, informative, and productive atmosphere and a panel discussion. Panelists will share their journey including the postsecondary qualification requirements for their field, accreditations if required, and attributes needed to succeed. They will also highlight current and future job opportunities in their respective field, skills and qualifications required to perform certain jobs, challenges encountered along the way and how they overcame them.
During breakout sessions students will have the opportunity to speak directly to any panelists to discuss their special circumstances. Information about mentorship, available scholarships, the criteria for applying, and the application process will be available.
Representatives from Durham College will also be on hand to disseminate additional information and resources. Networking opportunities with their peers, panelists, and other professionals will occur throughout the day.
The Congress of Black Women of Canada invites you to join us in making that opportunity a reality.
