Empowering English Language Learners (ELLs) for Academic and Emotional Growth
This year we embarked on a new Learning and Innovation Fund for Teachers (LIFT) initiative, Fostering Cultural Connectivity for ELL’s Mental Wellbeing, led by Antonietta Springer and Coleen Dwyer, English as a Second Language (ESL) Itinerant Teachers.
Select ELL students have engaged in collaborative academic and social and emotional tasks, both online and face to face, to develop their English language acquisition skills, oral communication skills and strengthen their mental well-being and sense of belonging.
We are thrilled about the success and the positive impact it's having on our ELL students from select Whitby and Oshawa schools. The opportunity for these students to engage in activities at Joey's World and meet in person for the first time was truly valuable.
Continuing to provide opportunities for in-person interactions and cultural exchange will further enhance the students' language skills and sense of belonging within the school community. We look forward to future excursions and learning opportunities.
