Forest of Reading - May 17

On Tuesday, May 16 and Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the DCDSB hosted "A Forest of Reading Celebration" at the Pope Francis Centre. The event engaged students in indoor and outdoor stations related to the book "Be a Good Ancestor."  We had the author Leona Prince presenting to us virtually as she lives in British Columbia. Students participated in "on the land" investigations viewing owl pellets, plant life, invasive species and ways to help all living things. Students had the opportunity to respond to videos about "Water is Life" and how we connect to nature using digital tools. Students were served three sister soups and Bannock for lunch. This opportunity delivered hands-on, STEM-based, indigenous education to strengthen the understanding and relationship with the environment.
