Happy Wellness Wednesday!

Did you know that today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and this day is dedicated to promoting awareness and taking action to prevent suicides.   It is important to know that asking for help is the first step in getting support with any mental health struggles. Remember, you can always come and talk to any staff member if you are having a difficult time or you can reach out to any caring adult in your life. These conversations are tough to have, so here are some things you may say to ask for help:

“I have been feeling very sad lately and I think I need some help.”
or
“I can’t seem to get past my worries. I wanted to get some help before things got worse.”
Or even straight up:
“Could I talk to you, I need some help”.

If you aren’t sure who to talk to, remember you can always reach out to Kids Help Phone by texting 686868 or by calling or texting the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 988.

There’s no shame in asking for help with your wellbeing. Remember we all have mental health.

Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Information

World Suicide Prevention Day has taken place on September 10th since 2003 and is dedicated to promoting awareness and commitment to action to prevent suicides.  Anyone can experience a mental health problem, including thoughts of suicide, but with support, people can get the help they need. Parents can be the first to notice concerns with their child and this guide created by School Mental Health Ontario is designed to help by answering some frequently asked questions so that you can prepare, prevent, and respond if your child or teen is experiencing thoughts of suicide. https://smho-smso.ca/online-resources/suicide-prevention-guide-for-parents-and-caregivers/
