Mrs. Wheeler's Weekly Update- (1)

Dear Parents/Guardians of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School,

I know that many of our families are settling in for some Super Bowl celebrations later today! Whether you are cheering on Kansas City or Philadelphia, or up to other things this weekend, I hope that you are having a happy time. With Family Day Weekend upon us this weekend, it a wonderful to take every opportunity to gather with family, friends as well as enjoying personal time.

The arrival of Term One Reports in our Board involved some technical challenges. I have heard from a few families this weekend who are sharing that some sections of their child’s Report Card are missing data or marks. These areas were in place prior to the reports being published. Thank you for making us aware, I will share any further direction from the Board, and once again the patience is appreciated.

Tomorrow, I am proud to share that the Unity Team from St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School, a group of student leaders, will be presenting to our Grade 6-8 students according to the following schedule and Parents are most welcome to join us:

8:20-9:0 Mr. Duignan/ Mrs. Battista
9:30- 10:05 - Mrs. MDG/ Mrs. Dolowy / Mrs. Trivedi
10:10-10:45 - Mr. Goddard/ Mrs. Castaldo/ Mrs. Danielak

This presentation focuses on the power of language, and how 3 particular words, the n-word, the r-word and the g-word have been used as slurs to degrade and marginalize particular communities. This past Friday, the Grade Eight Educators and myself had the opportunity to meet with our students to discuss a variety of topics, including the importance of looking at our friendships and asking ourselves this question frequently: do my friends bring out the best in me and do I bring out the best in my friends? We also shared a very inspirational video by Denzel Washington entitled ‘Put God First’.
