Mrs. Wheeler's Weekly Update- February 20, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School:

I hope that this Family Day Weekend has been a happy one, with time to enjoy and to give thanks for the connections we have with those closest to ourselves.

This past Friday, we had our Professional Activity Day. While the students were off, our Educators were involved in STEM activities let by Ms. Lewis our Seton STEM Lead. We explored and learned about Micro-Bits so that we can better support our students with this coding tool. In the afternoon I reviewed our School Climate Survey with the staff. This Survey will be shared with our Catholic School Council at both our February 27th and March 27th Virtual Meetings ( please send an email to SetonCelebrates @dcdsb.ca for a zoom link to our February meeting) as well as with our school community.

As unbelievable as it seems, tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, the day before our Lenten Season begins. I am so pleased to be able to share that our school will smell like IHOP tomorrow, as amazing members of our Catholic School Council will be serving up toaster pancakes and juice boxes, and those students with special dietary needs have been planned for. The Team will deliver to the FDK classrooms and Grades 1-8 students will have planned times in our school gym, with tables set up and ready to go! The cost of feeding over six hundred students is close to $1000 and will be covered by our profits from a great number of Pizza Days.

Ash Wednesday will be marked at Seton with the Distribution of Ashes. There will be two Liturgies on that day, FDK-Gr4/5 ( 1:30 pm) and Grades 5-8( 12:30). Please join us should you wish to receive Ashes. In our classrooms, we will be exploring how this Season of Lent is an opportunity to Feast on/ Fast from specific things and behaviours

There can be no better week for the Durham Catholic District School Board to celebrate Safe and Caring Schools Week! We will continue with events and resources that support the building and animating of school culture which promotes inclusion, safety and the sense of community which are vital to growth and to well-being. Pink Shirt Day will be celebrated on Friday February 24th, but in our daily challenges this week, the message is clear: every day is an opportunity to walk in the Light of Christ. We continue accessing the School Mental Health Ontario Resources, with a focus on Building Healthy Relationships. On Thursday, classes are being challenged to engage in the PayitForward Challenge:

God bless our Seton family and wishing you a grace-filled Lenten Season.
