Mrs. Wheeler's Weekly Update May 8th, 2023

Dear Parents/Guardians of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School:

A profound thank for you for your participation in Catholic Education Week! Whether you cheered on our Chess Tournament, attended St. Isaac Jogues Church for Confirmation or encouraged your children to bring the best version of themselves to Seton every day, all of these commitments are part of the fabric of Catholic Education! A special thanks is in order for our Catholic School Council, and Parent Volunteers who made our Community Night such a great success. We have waited a long time to be able to gather for these events and we look forward to more amazing opportunities in the years ahead.

As the weather finally seems to have turned a corner, I wanted to share some reminders around dress code from our most recent monthly Pickering Family of Schools Principal meeting. Students are required to dress appropriately for the activity they are participating in. Graphics, logos and styles must be reflective of both our Catholic School environment and the values of our multi-cultural society. Visiting classrooms every day is such an important part of remaining connected to learning and to our students. In my visits this week, I will be highlighting resources for the Month of Mary, Asian Heritage Month https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/asian-heritage-month/about.html as well as talking about how there is a perfectly appropriate clothing choice for every setting. For example, wearing crocs is about comfort, but we don’t wear them for gym. The catwalk for Chanel shows midriffs and spaghetti straps; stunning looks for outside of school. Hoodies and ball caps get worn outside. Doing a personal review before leaving home for the day is encouraged both for students and for staff. As well, thank you for continuing to send in a reusable water bottle and promoting sunscreen.

Speaking of warmer weather, back by popular demand: Frozen Friday! The first Frozen Friday is this Friday – check it out – Cash-On-Line. Orders close on Wednesday for each Friday. As always, such a tradition only happens with the support of our amazing Volunteers who purchase freezies for the school and then divide them by class!

I have also included the Parental Input again this week for your consideration.

Fingers crossed that the Leafs can turn things around – I don’t want their golf season starting too prematurely!

God bless our Seton family!

Mrs. Wheeler, Principal
