Pride Month at DCDSB
As we celebrate our spiritual theme of Living in Hope, we are focused on how we can be beacons of hope for those around us. As Catholics, we are called to love one another as every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. As such, we are committed to creating inclusive and accepting communities that reflect the unconditional love of God.
During the month of June, and all year long, we support, acknowledge and affirm students, families, staff and community members who identify as 2SLGBTQ+. We will be raising the rainbow flag at our board offices and schools in June as a symbol of welcome, as we continue to focus on creating inclusive, safe, accepting and respectful learning and working environments to ensure the success and well-being of all in our Catholic learning community.
In the Hebrew Scriptures, God used a rainbow as a covenant with God’s people:
God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. – Genesis 9:12-13
A Covenant represents the intimate relationship God has with humanity. We are bound together and belong to each other to the point we are incomplete when not in relationship. When we display images of the rainbow in our Catholic schools, it is a powerful sign celebrating God’s covenant with humanity to embrace and love all unconditionally.
We are all God's creation and are all wonderfully made. "We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19)
