S.A.G.E Hosts Angeni Lovelady: Exploring Two-Spirit Experiences at Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School

This year at Msgr. Paul Dwyer CHS our group S.A.G.E (Sexualities and Gender Equality) hosted a guest speaker, named Angeni Lovelady, to speak about their experiences as a Two-Spirit individual.

Angeni Lovelady is a Niizh-Manidoowag (Two-Spirit) person of mixed ancestry (Algonquin Aniishinaabeg and Scottish/English). As the Project Coordinator at the First Peoples House of Learning, they work on the development and facilitation of different learning exercises such as the Just Get Over It virtual workshop. They also focus their work on creating engaging and inclusive programming for Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer students within Trent University as well as educating the broader community on Two-Spirit knowledge and history.

Angeni Lovelady lead a workshop for staff and students alike that went through a history of Two-Spirited/gender-diverse peoples in Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. It ended with a look at the modern-day, how have things changed and what barriers exist for Two-Spirit people in the workplace, in the home, and in their communities

The workshop was organized with the help of DCDSB Indigenous Education and was a truly memorable experience for participants.
