School Spotlight: St. Monica Catholic School

This School Spotlight segment features St. Monica Catholic School. Thank you to the administrative team at St. Monica Catholic School for sharing the fun and interesting facts below:

Fun Fact:  St. Monica Catholic School is 35 years young!

St. Monica Catholic School is an awesome place to be. Why else would we retain the same staff for 20 plus years. We have a lunch hour supervisor Ms. Kirkey who has been with us since 1994!! She has been honoured more than once for her dedicated service.

St. Monica Catholic School is 70% French Immersion and 30% English stream.

Fun Fact: Last year during our opening exercises at the school for the whole month of May students lead the "Hail Mary" in over 8 different languages.

Interesting Fact- Last year we completed a community consultation on Anti-Black Racism and are now in the "action phase"- using the feedback from our community. We are currently reimaging St. Monica Catholic School and have a St. Mary Catholic High School student artist working on the project with us. St. Monica Catholic School has been portrayed as a white woman, which she was not, and has been misrepresented in some Catholic settings. We look forward to having a new art installation in our main foyer this school year.

We have an awesome staff that share their gifts, talents, and volunteer to offer so many teams and clubs! In addition to our sports teams, we have American Sign Language Club, Spanish Club, Lego Club, Eco Club, Faith Ambassadors that meet Ms. Krista (Youth Minister), the Paws Program, Dog Therapy, Tree Bee Club, and Mural Club.

This fall, the Eco Club and the Tree Bee Club completed a greening project out front of our St. Monica Catholic School.  They planted a gingko and freemanii maple tree.  The staff, parents, guardians and students are proud to be a platinum eco school.
