SHSM Students Engage in Sector-Partner Experience Days with Local Community Partners
In October, Grade 11 and 12 students enrolled in various Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs participated in Sector-Partner Experience (SPE) days in collaboration with local community partners.
Students in the SHSM Business programs at All Saints Catholic Secondary School and Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School visited Trent University’s Durham campus, where they engaged in a dynamic case study designed and delivered by the Business faculty. The faculty also shared details about their Business program, and the day concluded with a guided campus tour.
Students in the SHSM Sports program at Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School attended an SPE day hosted by Trent University’s Kinesiology department in Peterborough. They participated in a concussion-focused challenge activity, learned about the Kinesiology program, and explored the campus.
Meanwhile, SHSM Transportation students from Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School and St. Mary Catholic Secondary School spent their SPE day at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. They toured the racetrack, participated in a challenge activity and watched a short race. Students also had the opportunity to speak with Motorsport racers and Automotive Service Technicians about career pathways - all while getting an up-close look at some incredible Motorsport cars.
