St. Catherine of Sienna Students Share the Joy of Easter
Faith is in full bloom this Easter! At St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Ajax, the Grade 1 and 2 students in Ms. Sarmento’s class were eager to show off their learning about the Stations of the Cross during Holy Week. Students gathered with excitement around the sprouting resurrection garden that their teacher, a faith animator at St. Catherine of Sienna, has placed on the class prayer table to illustrate Jesus’ journey throughout Holy Week and Easter.
Walking the students through the Stations of the Cross using art, their companion Station booklets, and Catholic media representations, Ms. Sarmento reminded the students that the story does not end with Jesus’ death and that the joy of Easter is to come.
Students have been anticipating Christ’s triumphant return by marking the date on their class calendar, adding badges to their Scripture visual tracker, and tending to their resurrection garden with great joy and anticipation.
One of the students added with excitement that, “When Easter comes, we move the stone and then we put the crucifix near the Garden, and we talk about how Jesus has risen.”
During their daily instruction in religious education the students will continue to showcase the joy of the season as well as their learning journey through the fifty days of Easter through literacy, reflection and beautiful artwork.
