St. John the Evangelist C.S. Family STEM and Coding Night Recap!
We had an incredible evening on Thursday, May 18th, at St. John the Evangelist C.S. as students showcased their coding skills during our highly anticipated Family STEM and Coding Night. It was a delightful experience watching the young minds engage in various interactive activities alongside their family and friends. Let's take a moment to recap the highlights of this fantastic event!
1. Creating a Step Counter with the Micro:bit:
Students dived into the world of microcontrollers as they used the Micro:bit to develop their very own step counters. With determination and ingenuity, they programmed the Micro:bit to track their steps, providing a fun and interactive way to encourage physical activity.
2. Learning About Pollination with the Ozobot:
Our young scientists explored the wonders of pollination with the help of Ozobots. Through coding and experimentation, they learned about the crucial role of bees and other pollinators in the natural world. It was a joy to see them understand the significance of these tiny creatures and their impact on our environment.
3️. Exploring with the Indi:
The Indi robot sparked curiosity among our attendees as they embarked on an exciting journey of exploration. By coding the Indi, students navigated through challenging mazes and obstacles, developing problem-solving skills and learning the importance of persistence.
4️. Drawing with the Root Robot:
The Root Robot provided a canvas for our young artists to express their creativity through coding. With its drawing capabilities, students designed intricate patterns and pictures, combining art and technology in a unique way. Their enthusiasm and imagination were truly remarkable!
5. Spring Coding with Scratch Jr:
In the spirit of the season, students embraced the joy of spring coding with Scratch Jr. They animated colourful characters, created interactive stories, and crafted their digital masterpieces. It was a delightful reminder of how coding can be both educational and fun!
6. Making a Butterfly Fly Using Magnets and Tissue Paper:
The magic of magnets came to life as students crafted their very own flying butterflies. With the help of magnets and tissue paper, they engineered beautiful butterflies that fluttered gracefully, leaving everyone in awe of their engineering skills.
7. Playing Music with Makey Makey:
Music filled the air as students discovered the wonders of Makey Makey. By turning playdoh into musical instruments, they tapped into their creativity and composed melodies like true maestros.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students, families, and friends who joined us for this memorable evening. Your support and enthusiasm made this event truly exceptional. Special thanks to our dedicated educators and volunteers who tirelessly organized and facilitated the various activities.
