About Katharine
Katharine is the Superintendent of Education responsible for Faith Formation, Equity, Indigenous Education, and West Durham schools. Katharine oversees the development of the Board Pastoral Plan, works closely with the Human Rights and Equity Advisor to develop the Equity Action Plan, and is the Co-Chair of the 2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and a staff resource to the Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee.
Katharine began her Catholic educational career 32 years ago in Halton where she was an elementary and secondary school teacher, Consultant of Religious Education, and secondary school administrator. Katharine is thankful to have been so warmly welcomed by the Durham Catholic community and has embraced her new education family. Katharine had a profound educational faith experience early in her teaching career that led her to complete two Masters degrees in theology. Katharine has gifted back to the Ontario Catholic educational community provincial curriculum resources that support Religious and Family Life education from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Katharine acknowledges the significant way in which Catholic education has shaped her identity since the age of four. She is passionate about instilling an understanding of faith that is life-giving and a faith-based education system that accompanies all on their journey, especially those who have felt unseen or unheard.
