We are pleased to share the May 2026 edition of the Durham Catholic District School Board’s Black Excellence newsletter. This issue highlights information, resources, and events that may be of interest to Black and Black-identifying students and families within DCDSB.

27 Grade 7 classes, representing 681 students, are participating in Created in the Image of God: I Am Because We Are (Ubuntu), a virtual engagement series that began in March and focuses on identity, mental wellness, faith, and belonging.

The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is proud to announce that Shawn O’Hare, Principal of Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School, is the recipient of the 2025-2026 Distinguished Catholic Leader Award. This recognition honours Principals and Vice-Principals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to Catholic education, leadership, and service to faith-filled school communities.

The Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (DCPIC) invites DCDSB families to two virtual workshops in partnership with MediaSmarts.

A free, play‑based Ready for School program will be offered in July for children born in 2022.This program is run in collaboration with Durham Catholic District School Board and Durham Community Health Centre.

The program supports school readiness through activities that promote social‑emotional development, speech and language growth, cognitive skills, and fine and gross motor development. One of the foundations of learning in kindergarten is built on play-based and inquiry-based learning.

This spring, Archbishop Anthony Meagher Catholic Continuing Education Centre is pleased to offer two valuable Canadian Red Cross youth safety programs designed to build confidence, responsibility, and essential life skills for children and youth.

Looking for a fun, structured, and free summer opportunity for your child? The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) Multi‑Sports Camp is a fantastic option for students entering or completing Grades 6 to 8, offering an active way to build skills, confidence, and friendships while staying engaged during the summer months.

Students currently in Grades 9, 10, or 11 are invited to audition for the Regional Arts and Media Program (AMP) at All Saints Catholic Secondary School in Whitby! Apply now for a Grade 10, 11, or 12 start in September 2026.

The Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee (DCPIC) will be hosting "Future Ready. Emotionally Strong", on Wednesday, April 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School (1375 Harwood Avenue North, Ajax).
