Durham Catholic District School Board Mobile App (iOS and Android) Privacy Statement

Durham Catholic District School Board ("DCDSB"), the owner of the DCDSB Mobile App, believes in the personal right to privacy. The DCDSB is subject to the provisions of the Education Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), and the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). The App will only collect information vital to the functionality of the application and some basic analytics information to allow us to continue improving the program. DCDSB uses the App for Education allowing students, parents and staff to communicate and collaborate. Emails, sent or received by DCDSB, are stored on servers located outside of Canada and subject to foreign laws.
- Once you sign in to a school and select "My Classes" (ClassAlert) or School & Bus Alerts (NewsAlert), your unique device ID is sent to the hosted eSolutionsGroup Limited (eSolutions) servers so that update notifications and school notifications can be delivered to you. You can disable these notifications at any time using the settings page accessible via the "Gear" icon in the top right hand corner of the DCDSB App Dashboard.
- If you sign up for any optional notifications, your location as a latitude and longitude, and the details of the notification you would like to receive are collected and stored so that we can send you the appropriate notification. You can disable these notifications at any time using the settings page accessible via the "Gear" icon in the top right hand corner of the DCDSB App Dashboard.
- Page visits within the DCDSB App are recorded solely for analytics purposes but cannot be tied back to an individual as only a unique "device id" is transmitted to the hosted eSolutions servers. The type of device being used such as the user agent and device type (iOS, Android) is also stored. These analytics are viewable by DCDSB as well as eSolutions.
- When a "Report Bullying" is submitted within the DCDSB App, the hosted eSolutions servers relay the information to DCDSB and may keep the report information in the eSolutions database so that the DCDSB can review it from their secure portal.
We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our App. All data noted above that is transmitted to the hosted eSolutions servers is transmitted over the HTTPS secure protocol. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.
We and/or eSolutions will retain user provided data for as long as you use the App and for a reasonable period of time thereafter.
