The following icons identify the status of strategic goals and priorities listed below.

Goal: To promote comprehensive education and career/life planning programs that meet the learning needs, interests, and aspirations of all students.

2021-2022 Priorities

Expand options for dual credits across the system and promote opportunities in SHSM sectors with a focus on Technological Education. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dual Credits:

  • Increase adult dual credit offerings in partnership with Archbishop Anthony Meagher CCEC
  • Increase number of dual credit programs related to the skilled trades
  • Deliver additional sections of Technological Education with the support of Ministry funding to grow Technological Education and increase participate in SHSM sectors related to the skilled trades.

  • Post-secondary Information Evenings for secondary students, parents/guardians regarding apprenticeship/college/
    university pathways
  • In school info sessions for workplace pathway students
  • Students will utilize myBlueprint in creating an IPP to support pathway discovery
  • Develop video library to promote student success programs (OYAP, SHSM, Co-op, Dual Credit, Centre for Success)

Transition planning – Intermediate Guidance Teachers (IGTs) will work collaboratively with students, educators and families to ensure smooth transition plans.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Transition planning:

  • Secondary guidance and curriculum chair school visits (in-person or virtually) to feeder elementary students
  • In school information sessions for various pathways by IGTs
  • In-Person and virtual opportunities to discover secondary schools and the various courses and experiences they offer
  • IGTs work closely with elementary schools, secondary guidance and SST to ensure smooth transition

Women in skilled trades:

  • Grade 7-12 students/families will learn more about opportunities in the skilled trades from female professionals in the field
  • Promotion of opportunities to explore the trades in secondary school through tech courses, OYAP, SHSM and Dual Credit
  • Grade 7 and 8 female students will participate in skilled trades workshops and learn more about opportunities in the apprenticeship pathway, as well as programs available in secondary school to explore this pathway

  • Offer the Support Ontario Youth Skilled Trades Boot Camp program
  • Continued promotion of the skilled trades in partnership with Indigenous community members for Grade 7 and 8 students
  • Skilled trade workshops for Grade 7-8 students involving hands on workshops, as well as the opportunities to learn more about the apprenticeship pathway and ways to explore the skilled trades in secondary school through tech courses, OYAP, SHSM, and Dual Credit
  • Participate in the Habitat for Humanity Build Days at the Oshawa Build site.
